Last Week's class

well i must say that after last week's class I feel much better about Boardmaker. When I was home trying to figure out how to create my book I was very frustrated. After about 5 hours, and a call to my PST I thought I figured it out. Then... I saw some of the books that my classmates created. wow you guys did a great job!! I enjoyed the rest of the class when we experimented with assistive technology. It was great to know how to do the online keyboard, and the sticky keys. I felt a lot of frustation, and it put things is perspective for me. I find it hard to type hitting the space bar when I see a key I want, and others find it frustrating not being able to type quickly. It really is true you need to feel teh experience to really get it.

  1. sorry you were frustrated Megan. We'll revisit the program again and you'll see it isn't that difficult. It is easier to learn in a workshop I find. Thanks

  2. I can really empathize with any struggle to learn or complete a task by thinking of my experience with technology! Boardmaker was par for the course! Today I was lost blogging!
I think your example of your friend with the glasses not be consulted about the problems with the technology was great! I remember last year sitting in a PPT meeting with parents, grandparents and teachers and my student all complaining how he wasn't using the laptop he'd been given. While they were all discussing this, I asked him quietly why he wasn't using it. He said it was too heavy in his book bag and he didn't want to leave it at school because he played games on it in the evening. The technology has to be right for the child!
